Author Visit

Summer is here! Here at last!

And yet I still find myself running around like a chicken with it's head cut off (and now that we have chickens, I now have a visual to go with that saying!)

Today we are leaving for vacation. We are going to Yellowstone and I am so excited!
However, before we depart, I have a million and 3 things to do and one of them is to clean up my camera SD cards.

Lo and behold! I found pictures I forgot I had - hence this quickly rushed blog post!

In May, our school was so excited to welcome the author Derek Munson. He wrote the story Enemy Pie and I have yet to find a child who doesn't love that book.

When he came to school he did a great assembly for all the kids where he read his book to them, answered lots of questions and then had the kids help him make a "good" pie and a pie for an enemy.

The kids loved every minute of it and I did too.

Now, the reason these pictures are on my family blog rather than my classroom one is because the boys were involved in a special way.

The top two AR readers for each grade level were chosen to have lunch with the author. Can you guess who was the top AR reader for 1st and 3rd grade?

Yup - my boys!

When they heard that they got to have lunch with the author Owen shouted out "Having a mother for a teacher has finally paid off!".

Thanks, Owen. Thanks.

Owen got all bashful when I asked him to stand by the author for a picture but not Caleb. He was all for it!

Proud of all these kids! Not only were my 2 boys there being rewarded, but 3 of my own students, 1 of my former students that I had as a 1st and 2nd grader, as well as a 1st grader who came to me for reading this year. Awesome kids every single one!

Now off to pack some more!
Yellowstone or bust!
